What do you think of the Rent-a-mentor idea JD?

I like the idea of a Pay-as-you-go critique.

It's cool that someone offers that. There are a lot of schools out there, but at least there's a good variety of options.

I'm just not too sure about the prices. In a shameless promotion I have to say that a few workshops/schools have 12 weeks for a grand or more (even 3x), while I offer 16 weeks for $500 which includes video reviews, multiple critiques, tailored-to-animator exercises or shot suggestions, working on their Maya files, etc. etc.
What I'm saying is that I have to charge something for the time that I invest, but I'm really trying to keep the price low, so that you don't only help via knowledge but also financially. A lot of places overcharge in my opinion.

Wow, 500 is a vey good deal! (I will definitely pass that info to some friends) I also think that cg spectrum is not exactly cheap, although its cheaper than many school and I have heard that many students get scholarships, but leaving prices aside I can say that I have had a great experience studying there so far, I'm doing the animation program and it has been constant learning day by day. What I really like is that more than classes it feels like true mentorship: you get personal and focused advice, real life situations, personalized training and small classes that make a good environment for critiques and discussions.
They also offer things like rent-a- mentor, which I think is new and a great opportunity for many people.

I'm a student at CG Spectrum and I'm extremely happy with the quality of the program and the results.
If you don't feel like investing lots of money on a regular program (even though $500 is not bad at all), I think the rent-a-mentor is a great deal, because you can focus on your specific strengths and weaknesses. The instructors are very well versed and have been giving me excellent critiques, so I can say for sure that you'll be getting good and useful crits from them as well.

16 weeks for 500? That's good! I also took animation at CGspectrum and I think that it's worth as I am happy with the education I got from it. I was taught by several of their mentors and they were all at the top of their game, pinpointing where I needed fixing the most. Definitely worth checking out!
